How much is a Pink Slip in NSW in 2026?

The NSW Government sets maximum fees for vehicle safety inspections carried out by authorised inspection stations. For a standard car or light vehicle, the maximum Pink Slip inspection fee is $52 including GST from 1 July 2026.

What is included in a Pink Slip inspection?

A Pink Slip, also called an eSafety Check, is a safety inspection used for registration renewal in NSW. An authorised inspector checks whether the vehicle meets the applicable safety requirements.

The inspection covers relevant safety-related components, which may include the following.

  • Tyres and their condition
  • Brakes and braking components
  • Steering and suspension
  • Lights and other required electrical safety equipment
  • Other items covered by the applicable NSW vehicle inspection requirements

Does a Pink Slip cost more if your car fails?

A failed inspection does not automatically mean you must pay another inspection fee immediately. NSW Government guidance allows 14 days for the required repairs to be completed and the vehicle to return to the same authorised inspection station for reassessment without an additional inspection fee.

Repair costs are separate and depend on the defects found. If the vehicle is not repaired and reassessed within the 14-day period, another inspection fee generally applies.

When do you need a Pink Slip in NSW?

Most light vehicles more than five years old need a yearly safety inspection when indicated on their NSW registration renewal notice.

Your renewal notice will tell you whether a safety inspection is required. If the vehicle is unregistered or its registration has expired for more than three months, a different inspection such as a Blue Slip may be required.

How long is a Pink Slip valid?

For most light vehicles in NSW, a successful Pink Slip inspection report is valid for six months. You need to complete your registration renewal within the report's validity period.

Once your vehicle passes the inspection, the result is generally submitted electronically to Transport for NSW.

Pink Slip cost vs Blue Slip cost

A Pink Slip and a Blue Slip are different inspections. A Pink Slip is generally used for renewing the registration of an eligible registered vehicle, while a Blue Slip involves additional checks for unregistered vehicles and certain other registration circumstances.

Because they involve different inspection requirements, they have different fee structures. If you are unsure which inspection your vehicle needs, check your registration circumstances before booking.
